About our instructors…

Abby Mazzei has had seven years in the classroom teaching kindergarten, second grade, third grade and English As A Second Language (ESL) in the Chicago City Schools and Lyons District 103. In addition, she has served as an adjunct professor in the ESL program at Concordia University. Mrs. Mazzei received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Illinois State University in Normal and her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. She has had extensive experience with at-risk students within the Response to Intervention (RTI) program. Mrs. Mazzei holds professional certification in elementary education (K – 9) with special endorsements in Social Studies, Language Arts, and ESL. She has been an instructor at WSEA since 2009 and Director of WSEA since 2014.

Ruth Schroeter served as a reading specialist in the Oak Park schools for eight years and taught second grade for two years in Naperville. She worked with the park district pre-school in Westchester for two years and with her church’s pre-school in Hillside for seventeen years. In addition, Mrs. Schroeter directed many programs at her church, including Sunday School, the after-school club, and Vacation Bible School for thirteen years. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Illinois Wesleyan University and her M. Ed. In Reading from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Mrs. Schroeter has completed post-masters work in learning disabilities and early childhood education and holds state certifications in elementary education (K – 9) and learning disabilities (K – 12). She is also a member of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. She has been an instructor and diagnostician at WSEA since 1995 and currently serves as Assistant Director of Programs.

Mary Seiferth has been the Director of the Hinsdale Covenant Church Pre-School for the last seventeen years. She taught three-year-old and four-year-old classes at the pre-school as well. Prior to staying home with three children, she worked in the “corporate world” in catalogue advertising. Mrs. Seiferth received her B.S. in Elementary Education fsrom Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. She has continued her educational studies by taking graduate courses, classes and seminars. She holds state certification in elementary education (K – 9) and has served as instructor at WSEA since 2007.

Amy Duckhorn taught first and second grades for 13 years in the Darien, Elgin, Streamwood, and Hanover Park, Illinois school districts. In addition, she taught kindergarten for one year, during which she created and directed an after school gifted program for the primary grades in Elgin. Mrs. Duckhorn recently served as the administrator of a federally funded after school tutoring program with 30 teachers and 300 students in Cicero, Illinois. She received her B.S. in Education from Northern Illinois University and is currently pursuing her Masters in Foundations in Education from the same university.   Mrs. Duckhorn is state certified in elementary education (K – 9), joining the staff at WSEA in 2012.

Andrea Tomaselli joined WSEA’s staff in 2014 with experience in teaching first, second and third grades. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Spanish Literature from Marquette University, with a K – 12 Spanish certificate, a K – 8 regular education certificate, a transitional bilingual certificate and an English As a Second Language Endorsement. She has extensive experience working with the RTI model in Lyons District 103. Miss Tomaselli’s flexibility and variety of teaching skills lend themselves well to the many students at WSEA of Hinsdale.

Kathy Brush joins our staff with a strong background in upper grade math. She has worked as a teacher in both elementary schools and middle schools as a technology and math teacher in Riverside, Berwyn and the City of Chicago. Mrs. Brush has prepared students for the ACT, SAT and GMAT courses through her work as a test prep tutor. She holds a Type 09 Secondary Mathematics certificate and is endorsed in computer science and Swedish. Mrs. Brush earned her Master of Arts degree in School Counseling at Northeastern Illinois University and holds a Type 73 School Counselor certificate in the state of Illinois. Mrs. Brush’s love of math is a welcome addition to our programs.

Amy Nolan Hill joined our staff in the spring of 2015, bringing with her primary and intermediate grades experience. Mrs. Hill earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Marketing Design in from Columbia College Chicago in 2000 and went on to receive her M.A. in Education from Northeastern University in 2007. She has been teaching for the past 8 years in Grades 2nd– 5th in Chicago Public Schools and Lyons District 103. She currently teaches 3rd grade and her knowledge of RTI programs and MAP testing help WSEA of Hinsdale stay current in what is going on in classrooms today.

Marilyn Montgomery joined our staff in the second semester of 2015 as our upper grade math support and enrichment specialist. Mrs. Montgomery taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Geometry Honors and Algebra 2 Honors for 10 years at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park. She has extensive experience in HSPT, ACT and SAT preparation. Mrs. Montgomery earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Kent University in Ohio and a Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. She also attended De Paul University in Chicago for graduate classes. Her confidence and vast knowledge of upper grade math is a welcome addition to our team of teachers.

Jacqueline Rowe joins our staff for the 2015/2016 school year. She brings with her a wide array of teaching experience including 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. She earned her Masters in Reading and her Reading Specialist title from National Louis University in Lisle and her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education as a Dean’s List student from North Central College in Naperville. She spent the last 14 years as a teacher in Willowbrook in District 180. Mrs. Rowe has experience administering MAP tests and how to implement lessons to increase success. She has worked with members of our team in the past and will bring intermediate grade knowledge and strategies to WSEA of Hinsdale. We are glad to have her.

Julie Schneider joins our staff for the 2015/2016 school year. She has eight years of teaching experience that includes 3rd – 7th grades. Mrs. Schneider earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University and is currently finishing up her Masters Degree from Concordia University. She also joins us from District 180 where she has considerable intermediate and middle school teaching experience. Mrs. Schneider is familiar with MAP testing, has worked with RTI (Response To Intervention) programs and is endorsed in Language Arts and Social Studies. Her intermediate and middle school experience will be a great addition to our program at WSEA of Hinsdale.

Theresa Wilkie joins our staff for the 2015/2016 school year. Ms. Wilkie taught at Hinsdale Middle School for over 30 years and is known for her demanding and successful guidance of middle school students and their language and literature areas of study. She brings an expansive base of knowledge and experience in the areas of language arts, literature, test taking skills, speech and debate, reading, study skills and writing. She has prepped students for high school placement tests as well as prepared older students for the ACT. Ms. Wilkie and her years of experience in the area schools will be a resource for students and teachers alike. We welcome her to WSEA of Hinsdale.

Janell Hadley joins us after having been in the classroom for the past 8 years in Elmhurst, IL. Her experience spans the primary years of learning, 1st -3rd and she welcomes the addition of intermediate grades into her teaching. Mrs. Hadley earned her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Taylor University in 2007. She was nominated for the Golden Apple Teacher Award in the 2014-2015 school year and is no stranger to the rigors of competitive school districts. She comes to us with the experience and enthusiasm needed to foster success.

Jodi Brubaker has been an integral part of WSEA of Hinsdale’s substitute teacher staff for the past two sessions of learning. She joins our school year staff with her own schedule for the 2015-2016 school year. Mrs. Brubaker has children of her own in District 181 and is also a state certified teacher. She has a B.S. from California Polytechnic University San Obispo and her teaching credentials from Chapman University. She has a primary background in both California and Illinois. She has been a member of the pre-school staff of Hinsdale Covenant Church and we are happy to have her as a part of the staff of WSEA of Hinsdale.
